The International Council of Roerich Organizations is a cultural, public and independent historically formed union of creative forces inspired by the Roerich movement. It recognizes the uniting role played by The International Centre - Museum of Nicholas Roerich, known to all as the ICR, created on the initiative of S.N.Roerich to remain for ever its Honourary President. The International Council of Roerich Organizations (Council) was founded in 1991 at the crucial moment when the Soviet Roerichs Foundation was fiercely attacked by those who strove to seize and divide the Roerich heritage. But it was Svyatoslav Roerich's strong belief that the Roerich heritage must be left indivisible. The Council considers that the main aim of its activity is to carry out the behest of S.N.Roerich to defend and support the ICR thoroughly in its museum, cultural, scientific and organizational work to protect, investigate and popularize the Roerich heritage. During the ten-year period of its functioning the Council has undergone many changes in its personnel but the main aim and principles of the work remained steadfast: - to protect the name and the heritage of the Roerichs against perversion, falsehood and slander; - to assist and support the ICR as the central focus of Roerich movement. At the International Symposium held on June 22, 2002 Roerich organizations came together to study the appeal of S.N.Roerich to Roerich organizations and to determine their activity by uniting all into the International Co-Operation of Roerich Organizations. On February 12, 2003 they adopted a Declaration of Roerich Organizations and signed an International Agreement. The Council strengthens and extends international cultural co-operation on the basis of unity and dialogue of enthusiasts across all earthly borders. The International Council of Roerich Organizations invites all who share our vision to co-operate with the Council in its endeavour to promote the Roerich ideal to an ever-growing global community.
