Meeting at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India

On the 7th of November, 2010 in the Embassy of Russia in India was held a meeting of the Ambassador A.M. Kadakin with members of the VIII International Forum, dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of the Roerich Pact. Representatives of the Roerich organizations from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and other Russian cities, and also from Kirghizia, Ukraine and Estonia in the course of two weeks organized in India a set of conferences, seminars and exhibitions under the motto “Culture and Peace – the sacred bastion of the mankind”.

Together with famous Indian scholars, culture and art workers, and teachers were discussed questions of developing and strengthening the cooperation in the field of preserving the cultural and historical properties, that unite the nations of different countries.

The delegation had been received in the Russian center for science and culture in New-Delhi, in the University, named after J.Neru, in the reserve-estate, working under the auspices of the Roerich International memorial Trust in the Naggar place in the Himalayan Kulu valley, in the town of Shimla – the capital of the Himachal-Pradesh state. During this meeting guests shared their opinions about the ways of putting into practice those ideals of mankind’s cultural heritage protecting, that compose the base of the wideworld known Roerich Pact, initiated by the famous painter, philosopher, explorer and traveller Nikolai Konstantinovich Roerich.

There were achieved promising agreements about extending the ties with Indian cultural and scientific-research Institutions, in particular, between the Himachal-Pradesh state and the Altai region in order to preserve the unique environment and nature of the Altai and Indian Himalayas.

Greeting the members of the Forum, A.M. Kadakin emphasized that Embassy of Russia in India is ready to render maintenance for such noble, creative activity. He paid special attention to the meaning of developing scientific connections with Indian colleagues, in the field of getting knowledge about Roerich, including the Roerich Pact, elaboration and accomplishment of plans for preserving monuments of history and culture, joint ethnographical studies. “A great contribution to it, - the Ambassador was persuaded, - would become establishment of the International Roerich Academy on the base of the reserve-estate, working under the auspices of the Roerich International memorial Trust in the Naggar place”. He reminded that this suggestion got maintenance of the Head of the Himachal-Pradesh state, professor P.K. Dhumal.

On behalf of the Roerich organizations the President of The International Council of the Roerich Organizations named after S.N. Roerich, O.A. Urozhenko awarded the Russian Ambassador an honorary pledge “The sward of courage”. This award was given for the contribution of A.M. Kadakin to the exploring, preserving and popularizing of the Roerich’s family cultural heritage.
